Da Vinci Art and Science Contest was held at Present Times Public School Abbottabad. The contest was held on 16 May 2009. Students of all the houses participated in the event. The theme of the event was learning Science through Arts. The contest's main events included Model Competition, Pencil Drawing, Painting Charts and Science Contest. Severe competition was seen amongst students for the Da Vinci Prize for building a helicopter with simple everyday things. The students promised to come up with more ideas next year. The models presented were also of high quality the award went to model of volcano. Other models included bio-gas plant, water turbine for electricity generation; test your nerves, a model built to test the capability of a human being to move a key from one side to another on a wire and electron transfer from one atom to another.

The chart painting had so many entries that the judges had to spend a lot of time simply going through the charts. The chart titled “a child is born” was adjudged the first.

At the end certificates and prizes were distributed by the Principal amongst the participants and winners of the competition. The Principal lauded the efforts of the staff members and students in making the competition a success and thanked the judges Dr. Munawar Aziz , Mr. Masroor Hussain (Faculty member GIK Institute) and Mr. Zahid Irfan for taking time out of their busy schedule.

Two faculty members (Ms. Sobia Pervaiz and Ms. Hira Tahir) attended a seminar on Phonics and Class Management arranged by Oxford University Press at Abbottabad. It was an interesting experience and the faculty members promptly shared the knowledge gained during the seminar with colleagues at the school.

Saturday February 21,2009
Students of FSc Class attended the GIKI Science Fair. Three students (Fakhar, Iqtidar and Arif) attended the Kasoty Round where they had to answer questions about Scientists, Inventions and perform a Dumb Charade for other team members to guess the item.

The students also visited the science projects exhibition where talent from allover Pakistan was being showcased in the form of Projects by Universities and Colleges. The students vowed to come next year and participate in the complete event.

The students later had a discussion about the quotation "I think therefore I am" with the Principal and thoroughly enjoyed the enlightening experience.

Students of matriculation and F.Sc. will be coming "home" to school during the last part of winter vacations. They will be mentored by the staff as well as doing extensive self study to prepare for the forth coming examinations in Spring 2009.
